The Much-Anticipated Miami Beach Altos Del Mar Park Opens Now!

Miami Beach Altos Del Mar Park

This beautiful plot of land between 76th and 77th streets in the North Beach neighborhood of Miami Beach, is newly transformed into a stunning city park open to the public. The State of Florida deeded the land to the City of Miami Beach in 2003 with the stipulation that the land always be used as a public park.

Initial plans for the land consisted of a Sculpture Park but the plans did not come to fruition for a multitude of reasons. So, several years ago, the city went back to the drawing board, hired a consultant, spoke with teams of experts, and brought the ideas in front of the locals for resident input. The goal of the community workshops was to develop a financially and environmentally feasible community focal point. In the end, the decision for a passive park, a new type of recreational space for our urban island, was decided.

The North Beach neighborhood of Miami Beach has many active parks like the North Shore Park & Tennis Club, the North Beach Oceanside Park and Normandy Isle Pool & Park. Residents requested a peaceful, wide-open area to enjoy. This incredibly important project, as a culmination of community input, is made to further improve the quality-of-life for all Miami Beach residents and to be in harmony with the natural environment. The lot is uniquely situated in the highest elevation. This peak of height gives residents enjoying the park the opportunity to see over the dune system straight to the scenic ocean views.

Until recently, the Altos Del Mar park just had some sodding and volleyball courts but was not exactly what the people had in mind. The project was revitalized, and the plan is complete and on budget! Residents can now enjoy beautiful green space to throw a frisbee, a tot lot, walkways, amphitheater type seating, a defined entry plaza, turtle-friendly lighting system, stunning landscaping with native species, public bathrooms with showers and fountains, volleyball courts, and much-needed storage for beach concession vendors. This is one of the few Miami Beach parks with no fencing. The playground will be ready Q1 2020.

The park anchors the North side of Ocean Terrace with North Beach bandshell park on the south. The Ocean Terrace promenade, coming soon, will connect the two parks. Because Altos Del Mar Park is planned as a passive park, no activations are currently planned. Although, the amphitheater steps were created for possible future public events. The total public investment ended up at just under $5 million. This land is the last remaining undeveloped oceanfront parcel in Miami Beach. In anticipation, the community sentiment has been overwhelmingly positive.

Miami Beach Neighborhoods We Love: Biscayne Point

Biscayne Point – Miami Beach Neighborhood

Let’s discuss why residents love Biscayne Point. Although we have not done the math, we estimate upwards of 97% of the homes in Biscayne Point are waterfront. Only 44 homes are not waterfront! When crossing the bridge to into the gated community, you are immediately welcomed with tree-lined streets and a diverse selection of single-family homes each with their own unique curb appeal. The homes vary from charming, remodeled, MiMo architecture homes from the 1940’s and 1950’s to ultra-luxury, modern, new construction.

One thing they all have in common is their love of the water. This neighborhood consists primarily of one long horseshoe-shaped street called Cleveland Road that turns into Daytonia Road. Of course, homes in the center of the Biscayne Point enjoy waterfront property facing the waterway running through the center of the neighborhood. Homes on the open bay enjoy expansive views and sunsets that will take your breath away. Hosting your friends and family at your Biscayne Point home is an experience they will never forget.

These snowbirds from places like Canada, New York, Chicago, and all over Europe, are the envy of those left back at home with their snow shovels. Biking through town to the beach in your swimsuit and enjoying an outdoor dinner on the water in December are just a few experiences that make life in Miami Beach enviable.

The neighborhood of Biscayne point may only be about one mile, but its proximity to the main island gives residents easy access to any and all conveniences and city amenities.
